We hung out in his hotel before going to Lee’s and did the cover shot and a bunch of great location portraits, but I knew the image I really wanted was John post-show, in all his sweaty, manic, “karaoke show” glory. NXNE wasn’t allowing photographers backstage at Lee’s, but I explained the picture to both John and the location manager, and they both loved the idea, so in the seconds after he came offstage I was brought through the curtain and allowed to take a short series of portraits, one of which you see in the magazine, and another on the right above.
